Following the news that former All My Children star Sarah Michelle Gellar (ex-Kendall Hart) will be starring in the upcoming Fox series Other People's Houses comes news that the actress will also be joining the network's upcoming drama Sometimes I Lie, which is based on former BBC journalist Alice Feeney's novel of the same name.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the thriller, which is being produced by daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, will follow Gellar in the role of Amber Reynolds, who winds up in a coma, isn't able to remember how she got there, but is sure it was no accident. Terrified and trapped in her own body, she tries to piece together her memories of the past week. With a husband who no longer loves her, a sister hiding a dangerous secret, and an ex-boyfriend who can't let go of her, Amber knows someone is lying -- and that her life is still in danger.
The series -- which at this time is limited -- will alternate between Amber's paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from 20 years ago. The psychological thriller asks, Is something really a lie if you believe it's the truth?
Gellar is set to executive produce the series, which will be written by and also executive produced by Robin Swicord. DeGeneres and her production company head Jeff Kleeman will also executive produce.
Gellar's other Fox project, Other People's Houses, began development earlier this summer. Written and executive produced by Ringer creators Eric Charmelo and Nicol Snyder, and based on the book by Abbi Waxman, the series is described as a "suburban dramedy, somewhere between Big Little Lies and Catastrophe," that follows nine people living in the quiet, well-off Larchmont Village neighborhood of Los Angeles. Through the lens of social media, the show's characters "navigate their way through emotional ups and downs, as they try to figure out their lives as partners, parents, friends, and neighbors." The main characters of the drama are stay-at-home mother Frances Bloom and working mom/social media influencer Anne Porter, the latter of which will be played by Gellar.
Gellar made her debut as AMC's Kendall in 1993 and immediately found success in the genre, winning the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actress in 1995 -- the same year she left the soap opera. Her credits after daytime include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ringer, and The Crazy Ones.
